Trigger Warnings and Dirty Jokes: Why Dead Weight Needs Both

Let’s get one thing straight: Dead Weight is not your average coming-of-age paranormal romance. It’s a bloodstained valentine wrapped in duct tape, trauma, and ghostly sarcasm. It’s messy. It’s weird. It’s a little too honest at times. And yes, it absolutely requires trigger warnings and the occasional dick joke.

Because if you’re going to ride shotgun on Salem’s cursed murder journey, you deserve to know what’s coming. But also? You deserve to laugh a little too. Or a lot. Maybe uncomfortably. Ideally while questioning your moral compass.

So let’s talk content. Here’s your mixed bag of darkness and dumbassery, with bonus commentary from yours truly:

Graphic Violence

Salem dismembers someone in the attic. No, really. There’s blood. There are limbs. There’s a garbage bag full of regret and probably an elbow.TW level: High. But also: She feels better afterward. Cathartic queen.

“Graphic violence? Yes. But also, consensual ghost cuddles. Balance.”

Death, Murder, and… Haunting Romance?

Wyatt is dead. Salem killed him. Now he’s emotionally codependent and sarcastic as hell. It’s fine. Everything’s fine.TW level: Existential. But also: He’s got dimples. It’s very confusing for everyone involved.

“You ever fall in love with the guy you murdered? No? Just Salem? Cool cool cool.”

Mental Health & Trauma

We’re talking generational curses, inherited compulsion to kill, loneliness, emotional repression, and a side of please don’t touch me unless I ask.TW level: Deep and real. But also: Salem processes grief by threatening people with scalpels and sarcasm.Mood.

“Therapy? No thanks, she has ghosts and a werewolf.”

Sexual Content & Intimacy

There is tension. There is release. There is Wyatt floating through a wall at the worst possible time.TW level: Mild to moderate smut. But also: It’s tender. And awkward. And a little hilarious.Welcome to intimacy in the Afterlife™.

“You haven’t truly lived until your ghost boyfriend roasts your orgasm face.”

Blood Magic, Rituals, and Spells

It’s not witchy-light-a-candle energy. It’s burn-something-alive-and-taste-metal magic.TW level: Pagan grandma disapproves.But also: It slaps.

“Salem casts spells like she’s baking with rage instead of sugar.”

Emotional Manipulation, Family Trauma, and Gaslighting

Parents who hide secrets. Adults who twist truths. People who hurt and say they love you. TW level: Oof.

But also: Salem is done taking crap from anyone. And Clarence (her murder-itch) has Opinions™.

“Imagine if your anxiety could talk. Now imagine it wants you to stab people.”

Humor (of the very dark kind)

If you’ve ever laughed during a funeral scene in a movie and then felt bad about it—welcome home.

TW level: Morally grey, just like you.

But also: No shame. We grieve with sarcasm here.

“If I didn’t laugh, I’d cry. And if I cried, I’d hex someone. So…”

Final Notes from the Void

Dead Weight is a chaotic blend of horror, humor, heartbreak, and healing. If you’re in the right headspace for that kind of ride—buckle up. If not, that’s okay too. Protect your peace. I mean that sincerely.

But if you are ready?

Bring snacks. Maybe garlic. Possibly a murder alibi.

And don’t say I didn’t warn you.
